What is a domain name?
Domain names are the familiar, easy-to-remember names for computers on
the Internet (such as giacom.com). Your domain name is the core of
your Internet identity - your online brand. Your customers will remember
this name and use it to find out about your products and services.
Two parties can never hold the same domain name simultaneously because
your Internet identity is unique.
What are the limitations in naming a domain?
The character limitation for ordering a domain is 59 characters; the
only symbol that is allowed to be present in a domain name is a hyphen
(-) any other symbols (such as £ or %) cannot be used in the
naming of a domain.
What is a premium domain name?
Premium domain names are high quality domains that have already been
registered, but are available for sale at a premium price.
How do I register a domain name?
Access www.giacom.com from your Web browser. Enter the domain name you
want to register in the search box on that page, and click ‘Check’.
Our system will inform you whether the domain is available for registration
or not. If the domain name is available you are given a link to securely
register the domain name. We will walk you through the process of registering
and paying for the domain name you have chosen. If you already have
an account with us you can sign up through myGiacom and therefore not
having to enter all your details again except for the payment details.
Can I order a domain simply without any
web space?
Yes, we provide a parking service for domains.
Once ordered, will I be the registrant of
the domain?
Once a domain name has been successfully registered on your behalf then
you will be the registrant of the domain of the duration of the registration
period, you will also be allowed to extend your registration.
For any domains hosted with us the renewal of the domain can be done
within myGiacom or you can contact the Customer Service department. If
this has not been done before or at the time of the renewal, the domain
will be released to the public.
Once registered, will it be possible to
change a domain name?
Unfortunately it is not possible to change a domain name once it has
been registered on your behalf as the required fee’s will have
been paid to the central domain authorities. For this reason please ensure
that prior to accepting the order for the domain that you check the exact
spelling as alterations cannot be made once the domain has successfully
been registered on your behalf.
